The Ibizan Hound gets along well with children, but should be socialized early on with other smaller animals such as cats. With strangers the Ibizan Hound tends to be reserved yet polite. The Ibizan Hound is an adaptable and versatile breed, and needs plenty of exercise, so is not suited for apartment living or for those unable to provide the attention and exercise that he needs. The Ibizan Hound is a svelte, lithe, and sturdy dog that is medium to large in size. His large, erect ears add to his alert and curious expression. The coat of the Ibizan Hound is hard, close fitting, and dense, and may be smooth or rough in texture. The coloring of the coat is solid white, solid red, or white and red. The weight of these dogs is around 45 pounds for females and around 50 pounds for males, and the height is around 22-26 inches for females and 23-28 inches for males.

The Ibizan Hound originates from Spain, and has a history that can be traced back many centuries. Used as a rabbit hunter in Ibiza, from where the breed takes its name, the Ibizan Hound was registered with the AKC in 1978.
