Newport News residents can have their dogs and cats spayed or neutered free of charged next week for Spay Day USA.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is working with the city to do the surgeries on Tuesday, according to a PETA news release.

The free surgeries are open to city residents and must be prescheduled, the release says.

The procedures will be done at a farmer’s market at 2801 Jefferson Ave., the release says. To schedule a time for a surgery on Feb. 24, call (757) 622-7382 and select option 3 or call (757) 595-7387.

PETA takes its mobile clinic to the market each month to offer low-cost surgeries. For more information about other surgery dates, call (757) 622-7382 and select option 3.
