WILLIAMSBURG -- Criminal charges have been filed against a man for shooting and killing a couples dog.
Fifty-four-year-old Williamsburg resident Jeffrey Winkel was charged in court Monday for killing and torturing an animal.
Investigators say back on April 3, a couple was walking their dogs in a wooded area when one of them ran off and on to Winkel's property.
That's when he shot the animal.
Investigators say Winkel has been charged with shooting a dog in the past but not convicted.
If he is convicted in this case, State Police say he could face four years in jail and a $5,000 fine.
