SUFFOLK, Va. - Suffolk Police arrested 24-year-old Trevell Dimitrius Bryant on Friday and charged him with Cruelty to Animals.
Bryant's arrest stems from secured warrants the animal rights group PETA had out against him for not providing proper care to his pit bull.
PETA spokesperson Daphna Nachminovitch tells WAVY.com the chained pit bull was suffering from a skin infection as well as a mite infestation. Nachminovitch says these illnesses are generally a sign of poor nutrition and stressful living conditions.
Nachminovitch says the dog's feet were cracked, swollen and infected.
Two weeks ago 2 others, Chevalia and Katreil Gilmore, were charged for neglect of another pit bull, according to Nachminovitch.
In this case the owners had left the dog chained for 24 hours a day and had neglected to provide him proper nutrition. The dog was about 30 pounds underweight. Nachminovitch says he also tested positive for heart warm disease.
