CAMBRIDGE - A man who was hit by a car last week when he ran into the road to save his dog has died.
Washington County Sheriff's deputies said Carl Bodenstab Jr., 43, of Cambridge died Tuesday at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

The accident occurred Feb. 18 as Bodenstab drove on Route 22 in a snowstorm. He lost control and went off the road, deputies said, causing another driver to swerve and also leave the roadway.

When Bodenstab stepped out of his car to check for damages, his dog, who was in the car, bolted. Deputies said Bodenstab chased the dog into the road and was hit by a car that had swerved to miss the dog.

Bodenstab was taken to Southern Vermont Medical Center and transferred to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where he died.
