Woman trying to rescue dog falls through ice

LA CROSSE, Wis.
A woman was taken to a La Crosse hospital for treatment after she fell through the ice into a Mississippi River backwater while trying to reach her dog.
Town of Shelby fire Chief Mike Kemp said it happened about 2:30 p.m. Friday when she was walking two dogs at the south end of Goose Island and one dog went in the water.
She fell through trying to reach the animal.
Kemp said a couple walking their dog managed to get the woman out of the water.
She was taken to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center for treatment.
Her name and condition haven't been released.
